Creativity is food for the soul: there isn’t a person alive who wouldn’t benefit from some extra creative juice in their lives.
However in the daily grind of life, it can be difficult to create the “perfect” conditions to create.
From the mentoring and team training that I do, I can tell you that the No.1 type of work that people procrastinate on is creative work.
And I can see why: It’s scary!!
We can fail, we can get it wrong (whatever “wrong” means), we have no guarantee that people will like it.
So we put it off.
We tell ourselves that when we have more time/money/headspace that we’ll do that thing.
- We'll start that book.
- We'll strategise that next career move.
- We'll begin the side hustle.
- We'll finally make our bedroom the gorgeous sanctuary we've always wanted it to be.
- We'll make our first online program.
- We'll plant that veggie garden.
- We'll begin that podcast.
Fashion designer Tom ford once said
Â
Many of us wait until those perfect conditions of ample time and silence arrive and promise ourselves that then we’ll be more creative…
The problem is that those perfect conditions seldom arrive.
And what can happen is that life slips away and Future You is even busier than Right Now You, and that creativity just never gets its moment to shine.
That idea just devastates me - think of all the books that never got written, the songs that were never performed, the side hustles that were never started, the career opportunities that were missed…
All because someone got in their own way.
What I've learned
And I’ve had my fair share of trying to figure it out!
In the last nine years I’ve created:
- My first business, that turned over multi-millions of dollars a year and earned me a shelf-full of awards
- Four bestselling books
- My second “soul on fire” business that I eagerly look forward to getting stuck into each day
- A community that I adore and who give me so much fulfillment
- 25+ online programs and products
- A podcast with over hundreds of thousands of downloads
Â
Each of these was created with multiple other focuses that required my time, energy and attention including:
- Making sure that there was enough cash coming in to allow me to create new things (kind of important!)
- Becoming a mother and parenting with no family support around us
- The day-to-day demands that are part and parcel of all of our lives, that can consume my creative energy
I’ve learned a shit-tonne about how to be creative and actually get those projects done and out the door. Â
MASSIVE LEARNING 1
The conditions for creativity are NEVER perfect
Case study: Trying to write my second book Get Remarkably Organised when VERY pregnant and then with a tiny newborn, while also staying in touch with my business team and an extended family/business trip to Europe.
Result: The book has been my topselling book so far, and opened up dozens of new doors for me.
MASSIVE LEARNING 2
There MUST be an action plan
Case study: Getting my podcast out in the world. This had lived on my “must do” list for YEARS and finally I got so sick of my own BS that I committed to having it ready in time for my third book coming out in 2019. But that required a PLAN: timelines, action lists, team check-ins.
Result: My podcast has hundreds of thousands of downloads and it is the thing I get the most thanks about each week from my community.
MASSIVE LESSON 3
You MUST be prepared to push through intense mental barriers
Case study: When I was creating my Step Into You program, my Inner Mean Girl (as my friend Melissa Ambrosini calls her) was on the warpath. At every turn, I had horrible self-doubt and had to summon up all the willpower I had to push through my action plan.
Result: Step Into You has recently wrapped its third outing in the world. More than 300 women have completed the program, it is one of the best things I’ve EVER created and even led to my fourth book deal!
Here's the thing
Â
Look my dear - you might not want to write a book, launch a podcast or start a side hustle.
For you it might be getting some fresh juice to plan your next career move, giving your home a facelift, getting more creative with how you spend your family time, creating a library of photobooks, shaking up your weekly dinner rota…
All of us have something we’d like to be more creative with in our lives.
And now is the time to make it happen.
How it works
Over the six training modules, we work through a clear curriculum.
Create Academy is for you if...
Â
- You feel that itchy restlessness with your life and need some fresh energy and inspo
- You have a creative project that you've been promising yourself you'll bring to life... maybe even for years!
- You have a hunger to learn a new creative approach to your life
- You're sick of self-doubt holding you back and are ready to get the hell out of your own way
- You have a project already underway that's stalling... and that's frustrating the hell out of you
Or maybe you're all of the above!

Weekly Lessons
Week 1: Clearing the decks
In order to successfully create something new, we need to first clear the space, time and energy for it to land into!
Our first weekly lesson focuses on clearing your decks so you have the bandwidth to go forth and create. I’ll draw on the organisation principles I teach my mentees, and that I practice personally when embarking on a new creative endeavour.
In this lesson, you’ll learn:
- How to clear the time and space to devote to your creativity
- The three things we must tackle before embarking on a creative project
- Why clearing mental clutter is a critical element in creative success
Week 2: Taming our tech habits
With Guest Trainer Dr Kristy Goodwin
How we interact with the tech in our lives has a critical role to play in how creative we can be as individuals.
Dr. Kristy Goodwin is an expert on digital wellbeing and peak-performance will be teaching you how to create more focus and time to devote to your creativity by being more intentional about how you consume tech and social media.
In this lesson, you’ll learn:
- How to create your own personal digital boundaries to stop digital distractions from hijacking your creativity
- Simple neuro-hacks that will help you create more, every day (without giving up your phone or social media)
- How digital behaviours and habits can create a better holistic environment for creativity (and productivity)
Week 3: Intuition
With Guest Trainer Helen Jacobs
Cultivating our intuition is one of the greatest gifts we can give to ourselves.
Creativity is food for the soul, and in order to achieve creative flow, we must learn to tune into our soul whispers. Women in particular can benefit enormously from relying more on their own inbuilt intuition (sorry, boys). Renowned psychic and author Helen Jacobs will teach how to become more intuitive in order to help our creative projects flow more smoothly.
In this lesson, you’ll learn:
- The weekly and daily rituals to help you hone your intuition
- How to distinguish between intuition and fear
- Practical tools to interpret what your intuition is telling you
Week 4: Building a creative mindset
Being creative has an incredible way of bringing up alllll our junk: from crippling self-doubt to limiting beliefs, often the creative journey can feel more like an intense battle within ourselves.
I’ve learned that there are some core understandings that have eased the pain of creativity for me, which I will be sharing this week.
In this lesson, you’ll learn:
- How our own internal resistance can slow us down - and how to dismantle its power
- Actionable strategies to get you out of a self-doubt funk
- Positive rituals and practices you can build into your life
Week 5: Hatching a plan
“A goal without a plan is just a wish”... So let’s hatch the plan!
In this lesson I share how I plan my own creative projects and take you behind the scenes (or behind the screen!) to step you through the action plans, timelines and progress trackers I lean on heavily in my creative work.
In this lesson, you’ll learn:
- How to make a simple and sustainable plan for your creative project
- How to become your own leader by keeping yourself on track
- How to structure your week and day to secure time to be creative
Week 6: Making it happen
People have described me as having “very high output” - aka I can generate a LOT of creative work in a short period of time!
In this lesson, I walk through the practices I use to ensure I get what I need to get done DONE.
In this lesson, you’ll learn:
- The debilitating impact of distractions and how to nix them
- How to manage competing priorities
- The power of the F**k-up Plan and how to design your own one
